FDA: counterfeit sanitizer in Taloja factory; Stocks worth Rs 18 lakh confiscated
Mumbai: Demand for hand sanitizer has increased once again with the rise of corona infection. Taking advantage of this, fake and counterfeit sanitizers are being sold. The Food and Drug Administration’s intelligence department had received information that counterfeit and adulterated hand sanitizers were being manufactured at a factory in Taloja. After verifying the information, a joint team of the administration’s intelligence department and Raigad office raided AA Chemical in Taloja MIDC, Navi Mumbai.
During the operation, it was found that the factory was licensed to produce cosmetics. However, it was found that hand sanitizers of different types and brand names were being manufactured in the area without permission, forged, and adulterated. From the available stock, 6 samples were taken for test analysis, and the remaining stock of medicines and cosmetics worth about Rs. 18.84 lakh was seized.
